Weekend Getaway Chronicles: Exploring Wayanad's Charms in April
As April unfolded with its warm embrace, I embarked on an exciting birthday weekend escape from Bangalore to the mesmerizing realm of Wayanad. Eager to celebrate in style, I had chosen the opulent Taj Resort Wayanad for a sumptuous lunch. Little did I know that this trip would be a delightful blend of luxury, breathtaking scenery, and local cultural experiences.
Day 1: Taj Resort Wayanad Bliss:
My birthday adventure kicked off with a direct journey to the renowned Taj Resort Wayanad, a name synonymous with luxury and grandeur. The moment I set foot on the premises, I was captivated by the stunning surroundings that lived up to its reputation. With a picturesque view of the Banasura Sagar Dam, the resort was a true oasis in the heart of Wayanad.
You won't believe the welcome I got! The hotel staff greeted me with traditional Indian warmth, which instantly set the tone for a great stay. Now, the restaurant was a showstopper – it offered this fantastic view of the dam while I indulged in a scrumptious lunch. But here's the twist – the food was fancy and all, but it seemed more tailored for a foreign palate. My Indian taste buds were slightly disappointed, to be honest.
After lunch, I embarked on a photoshoot to capture the beauty of Taj Wayanad and its surroundings. . But guess what? The real gem was just around the corner – a quick 10-minute drive to the Banasura Sagar Dam. You know, I thought I'd just stroll around, but then it started drizzling! Rain in April, can you believe it? And just when I thought it couldn't get better, there it was – a rainbow spanning the sky, thanks to the rain. It was truly magical. The highlight of this location was an exhilarating speed boat ride, providing one of the best boating experiences I've had in India.
Day 2: Exploring Waynad tourist spot
The next day, I decided to explore more of Wayanad's local attractions. But let me tell you, the heat was something else – hotter than Bangalore, if you can believe it.
Our first stop was the Lakkidi Viewpoint, and it was mind-blowing. The panoramic view of lush green valleys and winding roads was absolutely breathtaking. It was like Wayanad's beauty captured in one frame.but here what we realised is every tourist spot was packed with people, and it kind of took away from the experience.
Seeking refuge from the masses, my companions and I decided to venture off the beaten path and discovered En Ooru, a tribal village open to tourists. This turned out to be an excellent decision, as the village offered an immersive experience. Spread across a vast area, the village was replete with mud houses, traditional folk dances, and vintage games. A variety of authentic village cuisine at the food counters and a small shopping complex with handicraft items added to the charm.
As the day wound down, I visited the Tea Museum and Honey Museum, indulging in shopping for various flavors of tea and honey, souvenirs of Wayanad's unique offerings.
Final Thoughts:
In retrospect, my birthday weekend in Wayanad was a memorable affair, albeit with a few surprises. While the Taj Resort Wayanad provided a luxurious escape with stunning vistas and top-notch service, the scorching April temperatures took away from the overall experience. Wayanad's beauty truly shines in the winter or rainy seasons when waterfalls gush and the weather is more temperate. My escapade to Wayanad, despite the unexpected heat, was a testament to the destination's allure and the importance of timing one's visit to make the most of its natural wonders.
